The Spirit of the Holiday

It's near Christmas and a little first grade boy has learned to write. He goes to his dad and says "this is going to be the best Christmas ever. I can write and I have made a list of all the things I want Santa to bring me."

"Son, you have been such a bad boy this year. You had better go straight to Jesus. I don't think a letter to Santa will get the job done."

So the little boy goes back to his room and starts his letter:

Dear Jesus,
If I promise to be good for a whole month........

He wads up the paper and throws it away. "Man, I could never make a month."

Dear Jesus,
If I promise to be good for a whole week.......

Again, he wads it up and throws it away. "that is way too long."

Dear Jesus,
If I promise to be good for a whole day...

And again, that would be too long. He is now pretty frustrated and decides to go for a walk to think about the problem. On his walk he passes a church with a Nativity scene. He picks up the statue of Mary and takes it home. Now he knows what to do and starts another letter.

Dear Jesus,
If you ever want to see your mother again......
